More than a safety retailer

The equipment is the easy part. Keeping it certified is the work.

Lawlor Safety has supplied safety equipment since 1962. Tech Services is the department that keeps it compliant afterward. Our technicians are manufacturer-trained and authorized to inspect, revalidate, repair and calibrate the equipment we sell — fall protection, gas detection, confined space and respiratory. Work is carried out at our Hamilton service centre, with on-site servicing available at your facility. Equipment leaves documented, tagged and ready to go back on the job.

Inspection & revalidation

Harness, lanyard and SRL inspection

Inspection identifies damage before it matters. Revalidation returns equipment to a certified state so it can go back on a job.

Why inspect and revalidate

  • Keep workers safe
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations
  • Reduce cost compared to replacing equipment
  • Maintain reliable performance on the job
  • Identify potential issues early, through professional inspection
  • Extend the lifespan of your product

Products we inspect and revalidate

  • Harnesses
  • Lanyards
  • Self-Retracting Lifelines (SRL)
  • Personal Fall Limiters (PFL)
  • Gas monitor calibrations

Also serviced

  • Tripod inspection & service
  • Winch inspection & service

How often

Inspection frequency

Two different schedules, and they are not interchangeable.

Fall arrest equipment

Before each use

Inspect for wear, tear, cuts or corrosion before every use.

Plus a documented, formal inspection by a competent person annually, or as required by local legislation.

Gas detectors

Calibration every 6 months

Calibration adjusts sensor accuracy using certified gas. It is separate from the bump test you run more frequently — see below.

Know the difference

Bump test vs. calibration

Both are routine. Only one of them adjusts the instrument.

Verify

Bump test

Checks that the sensor and alarm function — that the monitor responds to gas and that the alarm sounds.

A bump test confirms the instrument reacts. It does not correct how accurately it reads.

Adjust

Calibration

Adjusts sensor accuracy using certified gas, bringing readings back within specification.

Calibration is what returns a monitor to a compliant, certified state. Every six months.

Respiratory

Respirator fit testing

Proper respirator fit is essential for protecting workers from airborne hazards. Our qualitative fit testing confirms a respirator forms a proper seal and meets workplace safety requirements.

What the fit test includes

  • Review of respirator face piece components and proper use
  • Guidance on cartridges and selecting the correct protection
  • Confirmation of CSA clean-shaven requirements for an effective seal
  • Demonstration of proper donning procedures and seal checks
  • Irritant smoke test to verify respirator seal during movement

During the test

Users perform a series of movements — turning the head, looking up and down, bending — to simulate real working conditions while the seal is evaluated.

After a successful test

Users receive a Fit Test Card and completed paperwork confirming respirator size and model. Fit tests are valid for up to 2 years, and documentation can be provided to workplace health and safety personnel.

Rentals

Certified equipment, daily to monthly

Why rent

  • Lower upfront costs compared to purchasing equipment
  • Access to high-quality, certified equipment when you need it
  • Ideal for short-term jobs, projects, or seasonal work

Know the difference

Winch vs. retrieval fall arrest system

They mount in the same places and they are not the same equipment.

Movement

Winch

A mechanical device used to safely raise or lower a worker or tools during confined space entry and exit. Designed for controlled movement.

A winch is not designed to stop a fall.

Fall arrest + rescue

Retrieval fall arrest system

A safety system that stops a worker's fall and allows them to be quickly retrieved afterward — fall protection and rescue capability combined.

Both are available to rent. If you are unsure which the job calls for, ask.

Training

Product training and demos

Product training and demonstrations are available for the equipment we supply and service. Instructor-led safety courses are also offered, with a dedicated training space at our Guelph location and on-site training available at your facility.

FAQs

Common questions

How often do I need to inspect fall arrest equipment?
Inspect for wear, tear, cuts or corrosion before every use, plus a documented formal inspection by a competent person annually — or as required by local legislation. See inspection frequency.
How often do I need to calibrate gas detectors?
Every 6 months. Calibration is separate from the bump test you run more frequently. See inspection frequency.
What is the difference between a bump test and calibration?
A bump test checks that the sensor and alarm function — that the monitor responds to gas and the alarm sounds. Calibration adjusts sensor accuracy using certified gas. See the full comparison.
Do you rent equipment?
Yes — a variety of fall arrest and gas detection equipment is available for rent, on daily, weekly and monthly terms. See full rental rates.
What is the difference between a winch and a retrieval system?
A winch is a mechanical device used to safely raise or lower a worker or tools during confined space entry and exit — designed for controlled movement, not to stop a fall. A retrieval fall arrest system stops a worker's fall and allows them to be quickly retrieved afterward, combining fall protection with rescue capability. See the full comparison.
What brands of gas detection do you offer?
We stock BW, Dräger and MSA. We primarily service BW and Dräger. See gas detection services.
What services do you offer?
SRD repairs and revalidation, soft goods inspection (harnesses, lanyards and similar), respirator fit testing, gas calibration and repair, and equipment rentals.
